Two dead in E. President Street collision

SAVANNAH, GA (WSAV) – What started out as a traffic stop turned deadly when officers tried to pull over a Nissan Altima they say was speeding in the states street area early Tuesday morning. Police say officers signaled for the car to pull over, but the driver refused.  Officers say they deactivated their emergency lights near Savannah Golf Club Drive and President Street  but continued to follow the car at a distance.  Investigators say the Altima then crossed into the eastbound land of President Street and hit a tractor trailer. Two people inside the car, 29 year old Jamal Johnson and 31 year old Vantorio Sanders died on impact.  The case is still under investigation.
