Suspect turns himself into police in Emerald Drive Shooting


24 year old Jakeem Lawton turned himself into police today in connection to the Emerald Drive shooting of Maurice Bush back on September 7th, 2015.

He is currently being held at the Chatham County Detention Center.

He’s facing one count of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.


SCMPD officers are investigating two shootings early Monday morning .

The first happened just before 1am.  Officers responded to a “shots fired” call at Ohio Ave. and 36th Street lane.  Minutes later, officers were notified that a man came into Memorial with a a gunshot wound to the leg.  They say the victim is 29-year-old Richard Ferguson.

Just before 4:00 a.m. officers responded a second incident in Frazier Homes where a man was found shot in an apartment in the 500 block of Emerald Drive. 22-year-old Maurice Bush was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Both investigations are on-going.
