SAVANNAH, Ga. – 16-year-old Jason Tillman is being charged as an adult after police say he robbed and beat a woman at the Coastal Georgia Botanical Gardens.
It happened April 28th around 5pm. Investigators say the victim (a woman in her 50’s and employee of the Gardens) noticed Tillman enter the property.
Police say he’d been to the Gardens before and had destroyed property there. The victim tried to take a picture of the teen when he approached her and grabbed her cellphone. The victim was following him when he pushed her to the ground and began beating her over the head with an object. He then vandalized her vehicle before fleeing toward Highway 17.
The victim was transported to Memorial with serious injuries.
Another employee followed the suspect to Wal-Mart on Ogeechee Road and saw him get into a white Cadillac. The Cadillac left and went into Richmond Hill where police there took over. They stopped the car in the 2200 block of Highway 17 and arrested Tillman.
He’s now charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, criminal attempt at murder, criminal damage to property in the second degree and aggravated battery. He was transported to the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center without incident.
