Metro investigates shooting on 51st Street

Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the early morning of Tuesday, April 26th near 51st Street and Waters Avenue. The shooting left Bernie Edwards, 30, with non-life threatening injuries and he was taken to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment. According to a release from Eunicia Baker, two male suspects unknown to Edwards approached him asking for cigarettes before they robbed and shot him. The suspects ran off in an unknown direction.

According to Chatham EMA, Waters Avenue is closed between 49th-52nd Street due to the investigation. Commuters should seek alternate routes.

Both suspects are described as black males in their early to mid-20s, wearing dark clothing and hats.
