Family and Friends celebrate Birthday of Savannah Teen Killed in March

SAVANNAH, GA (WSAV-TV) – Friends and family of a murder victim are marking a somber milestone.

Seventeen years ago Altonise Jones was brought into the world. In late March, she was taken away. Through the pain, her family and friends come together to remember the teen.

“It was one of the happiest days of my life to become her mother, so instead of being in pain today, why not celebrate that today is her day,” says Tarasha Jones, Altonise’s mother.

It’s her day so friends and family came to Jones’ family church where her funeral was held  to remember the teen’s loving spirit.

“She had love for people who didn’t really love her, that’s what kind of spirit she had,” says her mother.

Tarasha Jones says her daughter’s love for her family was the strongest. The love they received the weeks after her death also has been uplifting.

“She loved to make people laugh to make people smile so it’s been real hard but today is making it better, it makes you stronger and i know that she does not want us to hurt,” says Jones’ grandmother Sandra Meadows.

Behind the smiles and joy knowing today was the day “Smoke” as her friends and family called her was born, they still wonder if anything will ever be done to catch her killer.

“Something should have happened given that it was not random people it happened in a home where she was staying i feel like somebody knows what happened it’s just a matter of who’s willing to come forward and say it.”
finding altonise’s killer is uncertain — what is certain is that even though she’s gone — her love is still here.

“she’s always with me and in my heart.”

there still is an ongoing investigation into her death. metro police are still asking if the public has any information that can help them in this case that you call Crimestoppers at 912-234-2020.
