SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah fire responded to a suspicious letter sent to to Congressman Buddy Carter’s office Monday morning.
Our crew on the scene says a white powder substance was coming from the letter. Rep. Carter was not in the office when the letter arrived. K-9 officers were called in to sweep the area, but no dangerous material was found..
We received the following from officials with Carter’s office:
“A few district offices for different members of the delegation received suspicious packages at the end of last week. Our Savannah and Brunswick district offices received suspicious packages and immediately contacted the Sergeant at Arms and are following the proper safety protocol. The FBI discovered that the suspicious substance sent to Rep. Hank Johnson is likely tea. While it is likely our district offices also received tea, we are moving forward with caution.”
