The Marine recruit who died on Friday, March 18, has been identified as Raheel Siddiqui of Taylor, Michigan.
Director of Public Affairs for Parris Island, Captain Gregory Carroll, tells News 3 Siddiqui arrived to Parris Island on March 7, 2016 and was assigned to Recruit Training Regiment.
The incident is under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service in cooperation with local military authorities aboard the installation.
Cpt. Carroll said, “Our most sincere and deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Siddiqui. The Marine Corps is in contact with the family to ensure they receive our support.”
According to the Washington Post, the Marine Corps is investigating the death of a recruit at Parris Island, Friday March 18th.
Captain Gregory Carroll with the Public Affairs Office at the depot, tells the Post the recruit died during the day but how the death occurred is not immediately clear.
He added the Naval Criminal Investigative Service will be looking into the cause.
