PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — House lawmakers are looking to tighten the rules on where Rhode Islanders on public assistance can use their cash cards.
The measure would ban the use of EBT cards at casinos, liquor stores and strip clubs.
The bill would also make it a crime for affected store owners to accept EBT payments. It was approved by a final vote of 66-1 on Thursday.
Twenty-five states currently have restrictions on how people can use welfare benefits, including nearby Massachusetts.
