1st Brigade Soliders to deploy throughout Europe

This spring 3,500 soldiers from Fort Stweart-Hunter Army Airfield’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division will be deployed for a 6-month rotation as U.S. Army Europe’s Regionally Allocated Force. They will be training throughout 11 countries in Europe, conducting multinational exercises focuses on improving interoperability according to the release sent by Kevin Larson.

“We look to build on the relationships developed with our NATO allies and partners during the brigade’s previous two rotations to Europe,” said Col. Phil Brooks, the 1st Brigade commander. “These relationships improve our ability to operate alongside our allies as part of a combined force while also reassuring our allies and partners of America’s continued commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.”

1st Brigade will also be participating in Exercise Anakonda 16 in Poland. Anakonda 16 is a Polish-led, joint, multinational exercise taking place throughout Poland from June 7-17. It involves more than 25,000 participants from 24 nations. Anakonda 16 is a capstone event for U.S. Army Europe and partnered nations, which validates the requirements set at the NATO Wales Summit in September 2014 and sets conditions for success for the NATO biannual summit in July 2016 in Warsaw, Poland.

There will be 1,500 1st Brigade soldiers supporting Operation Atlantic Resolve which is a demonstration of continued U.S. commitment to the collective security of our NATO allies and partners, according to the release. The soldiers will be conducting exercises in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. The exercises will give soldiers the opportunity to work and train alongside NATO allies, grow relationships that, will, in turn, build trust and mutual understanding, interoperability and demonstrate the United States’ commitment to the NATO alliance.

Additional scheduled exercises include Noble Partner in Georgia, Combined Resolve in Germany and international tank competitions in Denmark and Germany.
