Suspect of 2 Savannah murders arrested, indicted

On March 3, Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department and the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force of the U.S. Marshals Service arrested and charged Karonta Shamone Morrell, 37, with the murders of Rocquan Kemon Scarver, 17, and Jonathan Lang, 28. According to the release by Sonny Cohrs, Scarver was shot December 10 near the intersection of 39th and Burroughs streets. He was taken to Memorial University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. On March 1, Violent Crimes detectives responded to gunshots on W. 40th Street where they found Lang and Tonya Murcherson, 51, with bullet wounds. Lang died due to his injuries at Memorial. Investigators don’t believe Lang was the intended target, according to the release.

Today, March 9, Chatham County Grand Jury indicted Morrell for the murders.
