The Jenkins High School Warriors will complete their “March to Macon” Saturday afternoon with their state championship game, but friends and family gave them a friendly drive to Macon Friday afternoon.
A “Warrior Walk” send-off was originally scheduled for 4:30pm, but the bus ran an hour late. However, that wasn’t enough to stomp the spirit of the students; the school drumline and dancers performed, along with a DJ, to keep spirits high.
The Warriors won their class’ state title last year, and will once again play Morgan County in a rematch of last season’s battle. The coaching staff, though, hopes for a similar game and result.
“It’s tough to say that it’s different, because we’re playing the team team from last year,” says head coach Bakari Bryant. “We’re the home team, they’re the away team again. But what makes this game different is that they lost their key player and we lost 2 from our team. Other than that, as far as being different, I don’t feel different about this game. Feel we should come out with the same result if we come out and play Jenkins basketball, and that’s what we plan on doing.”
WSAV will have coverage of Jenkins’ title game Saturday night at 11pm from Macon, Georgia.
