Two brothers are in jail after they were arrested following an armed robbery in Burton Saturday evening.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said Lorenzo Green, 27, and Javontay Green, 23, allegedly approached a man in a wheelchair, and pointed a gun at him before stealing his keys and taking his white Toyota SUV.
Deputies found the SUV and when they converged on the vehicle, they say the brothers jumped out and ran into a nearby wooded area. After a brief chase involving a K-9 officer, both men were taken into custody.
The brothers were searched and a 9mm pistol along with the victim’s wallet were found in Lorenzo’s pockets.
Lorenzo was charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a handgun, possession of a weapon in the commission of a violent crime, fleeing to evade and malicious injury to real property. Javontay was charged with robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, fleeing to evade and malicious injury to real property.
BCSO released a statement that said in part:
We would like to recognize the efforts of the Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies (including K-9 “Pasja”) and dispatchers involved in last night’s armed robbery response and the timely apprehension of Lorenzo and Javontay Green. These two subjects demonstrated they will target what appear to be our most vulnerable citizens to further their agenda. Anyone with information on other criminal activities involving Lorenzo and/or Javontay Green is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CrimeSC.
