(Rhinelander, Wisconsin) Baby, it’s cold outside! But some are putting their hopes on a loon to warm things up.
Warmer temperatures in the Northwoods of Wisconsin have some hopeful that spring is not far off. Hopes are so high that a contest has begun to guess when the ice will melt.
To help with that task, the Squash Lake Association has placed a life-size loon on the lake.
The idea is that when the ice melts, the loon will sink and finally spring can be celebrated.
This is the second year for the contest. Last year, the loon hit the water on April 12th.
