We reported a few days earlier on Savannah-Chatham Metro Police department seeking the public’s help in identifying a rape suspect, now one observant bystander has helped to the arrest and charging of Theron Hendrix, 23. Hendrix was charged with rape and aggravated sodomy on Thursday, February 25 for the February 16 rape of a Savannah teenager on Clinch Street.
Metro responded to a call Monday, February 22 to a suspicious person in the Clinch Street yard where the attack took place. The suspect was Hendrix who was arrested and charged with loitering and prowling as well as criminal trespassing according to the news release sent by Eunicia Baker. Hendrix fit the description of the suspect in the February 16 rape and prompted a further investigation and a warrant service for Hendrix’s last known address. The warrant service turned up possible links to the sexual assault of another teen, which occurred March 2, 2015 on West Victory Drive.
From Aug. 25, 2014 to March 2, 2015, Metro’s SVU launched 6 investigations into prior sex crimes possibly involving the same suspect. SVU detectives continue to work closely with Metro’s Forensics Unit and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab. DNA and other forensic evidence are being analyzed to determine any links between Hendrix and the other sexual assault cases.
