Apple Fights FBI Order to Crack Iphone Used During San Bernardino Shooting, Sen. Graham Responds

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham released a statement on Apple CEO Tim Cook’s decision not to assit the FBI with unlocking Syed Farook’s iPhone, “our nation is at war and this iPhone was used to kill Americans. We need to protect our homeland, not terrorists.  To Tim Cook and Apple, cooperate with the FBI.” said Graham.

(NBC News) Apple says it will fight a federal magistrate’s order forcing the tech giant to help the FBI crack an iPhone used by Syed Farook, one of the shooters in the December terror attack in San Bernardino. The Obama administration says it’s a simple and narrow request. “They are not asking Apple to redesign its product or to create a new back door to one of their products. They’re simply asking for something that would have an impact on this one device,” says White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.

Apple CEO Tim Cook disagrees, arguing “The government suggests this tool could only be used once, on one phone. But that’s simply not true. Once created, the technique could be used over and over again, on any number of devices.”  The FBI wants apple to invent new software to bypass a key security feature that erases all data after ten wrong passcode attempts so techs can wage a brute-force attack to guess the number or password.

“Here the government’s not asking for a backdoor, what they’re asking for is give us the ability to sort of knock on that door a million times until we can break in,” explains George Mason University law professor Jamil Jaffer.
