A fire at a home on Canal Street in Estill, SC left a mother and her two children homeless Sunday evening.
The family was renting the home and, according to the Red Cross, everything inside was destroyed.
The mother told Red Cross volunteers the family was at church when the older daughter returned home alone and found the house on fire.
By the time fire crews arrived on scene, the home was a total loss.
The Red Cross released a statement which reads, in part:
Volunteers from the Red Cross office in Bluffton provided financial assistance for lodging at a local hotel for two nights, food for a week and referrals to partner agencies for clothing and items necessary to begin recovery. A Red Cross representative will do follow-up calls to the family and assist them with their long term recovery efforts.
