Benjamin Solomon Carson is the second son born to Sonya and Robert Solomon Carson in Detroit Michigan, on September 18 1951. In 1985, Carson was named director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins. At 33, he was the youngest U.S. physician to hold such a position. As a surgeon, Carson is most well-known for leading a team which conducted the first successful separation of conjoined twins born joined at the head. Carson retired from medicine in 2013, published two books on his views of our country’s future and became a contributor to Fox news. he announced his candidacy for the GOP presidential nomination in May, 2015.
