UPDATE: Savannah Metro Police Investigators have identified the remains found in a drainage ditch on Sunday. Police say the victim is 34-year-old Jason Edwards. He is homeless and was reported missing by his family on February 2nd. No obvious signs of foul play were found. Investigators are still waiting for the results of an autopsy and toxicology report.
Sunday around 6:00 p.m. Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department responded to a passerby reporting a sighting of what looked like a body in a drainage ditch on East Montgomery Cross Road. Metro’s Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol and Forensics units responded to the scene as well as the Chatham County Coroner. An initial investigation uncovered no obvious signs of foul play, but the Violent Crimes detectives of SCMPD have begun an investigation into the death of the unidentified male. According to a news release sent by Eunicia Baker, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab will be conducting an autopsy today, February 8, to determine the cause of death.
The male is described as a white male in his late 20s, early 30s wearing a camouflage jacket, blue shirt, shorts and boots.
