Hotel Evacuated, Army CID Special Agent Taken into Custody in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (WSAV) – According to Glynn County Police, an Army CID Special Agent received a text from another agent claiming he was being held hostage in the Holiday Inn Express on Glynco Parkway by a man with a bomb strapped to his body.

Army CID Command, Glynn County EMS & Police, Georgia State Patrol, FBI and Army Federal Law Enforcement Training Center representatives all responded to the scene and began a more than two-hour standoff.

According to GCPD’s Facebook page, “The threat was deemed credible based on available information that prompted the County Police SWAT, negotiators, [and] additional officers called to duty to assist.”

The report was found to be false and they say they believe the victim is delusional.

Criminal charges are being deferred until a mental evaluation can be completed at Ft. Stewart.

As a cautionary public safety measure the hotel was evacuated.
