The Transportation Security Administration discovered a loaded gun in a carry on bag at the security checkpoint Wednesday moring.
TSA officials said the Smith & Wessen .40 caliber pistol was found in a passenger’s carry-on bag around 8am.
The TSA alerted airport police,who in turn took possession of the bag and arrested the passenger.
Guns can be transported in checked bags as long as they are declared to the airline in a proper carrying case and unloaded. They are prohibited in carry-on bags.
This is the second firearm discovered at the security checkpoint by TSA officers at SAV this year. A total of six were found at the Savannah Hilton Head International Airport in 2015, up from three in 2014.
