New Mayor Pro-Tem Appointed for Savannah

Alderman Carol Bell has been named the new mayor pro-tem by the Savannah City Council, confirmed by the city Public Information Officers office.

New aldermen, Julian Miller is now chairman, Brian Foster who will be Vice Chair Bill Durrence, and Mayor Eddie DeLoach supported the appointment while Aldermen Van Johnson, Estella Shabazz, John Hall and Tony Thomas opposed the motion according to SavannahNow.

Bell will be in charge of heading meetings when DeLoach is absent and speaking on his behalf at community events and ceremonies when needed.

The previous mayor pro tem was Van Johnson.

A retirement deal with City Manager Stephanie Cutter was also agreed upon. Cutter is able to remain an employee, but as an advisor, and will be paid full salary for one year after her replacement is appointed.
