CHATHAM COUNTY, GA (WSAV-TV) – It’s on the minds of millions of Americans, the $1.5 billion jackpot is up for grabs this week.
The Powerball jackpot has already reached record numbers. That’s turning into big sales for local lotto stores. With the Powerball drawing less than a day away, stores are expecting a mad dash of players.
“We’re doubling up for tonight, for tomorrow night excuse me. you know somebody’s got to win,” says Dana Oliver, buying he and his wife tickets.
The chance that anyone can win is bringing in huge ticket sales across the nation and especially at the Sandfly convenience store at the corner of Skidaway and Norwood Avenue.
“It’s just been crazy. I haven’t seen it be like this since I’ve started here and ever since the winner people have been in and out i mean all day nonstop,” says Sandfly convenience store clerk Sakacy Johnson.
This store sold a million dollar winning Powerball ticket last week. The owners already have a long list of past winners for Georgia lottery drawings. A record Powerball though is pulling in record business.
“The lines will be long, sometimes they’ll be out the door and we have to have other people on shift to come in to help so it’s been a lot,” Johnson says.
The odds of winning remain the same no matter where you buy and that’s a chance of 1 in 292.2 million. For folks coming into Sandfly, however, they are certain they are catching some good luck.
“I just know I’m going to win, I get a good feeling makes me happy,” says Oliver.
