Authorities have now identified the body found buried in a shallow grave in Burton on Wednesday.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said 25-year-old Katherine Collier of Yemmassee, was found dead near a home on Toro Lane.
Collier was reported to have been the girlfriend of Charles Brown, who is currently in prison in North Carolina on firearms charges and was living in the mobile home before being incarcerated.

The forensic autopsy performed Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina revealed two gunshot wounds as the cause and homicide as the manner of her death.
Also today, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) continued the investigation into Katherine Collier’s murder, as well as the murder of the male victim found burned inside of a vehicle in Yemassee on December 18th. Investigators re-interviewed suspects Nancy Kennedy and Olin Brown, who are both incarcerated at the Beaufort County Detention Center on warrants obtained by SLED agents yesterday in connection with the murder of the male victim found in Yemassee. In addition, Sheriff’s Office investigators traveled to the Brunswick County, North Carolina Detention Center and interviewed 28 year old Charles Brown.
Today’s interviews of the three suspects led investigators to the recovery of a body part buried in a wooded area off of Shine Loop in Burton. The body part is believed to have been dismembered from the burned male murder victim and will be transported to the Medical University of South Carolina for examination by forensic pathologists. Today’s interviews also provided investigators with details of the specific role each of the three suspects had in the murders. Early this evening regarding the Katherine Collier murder investigation, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators obtained warrants for the arrest of Charles Brown for Murder, Orin Brown for Accessory After the Fact and Nancy Kennedy for Accessory After the Fact.
The murder arrest warrant for Charles Brown was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and there is now a hold on him at the Brunswick County, North Carolina Detention Center. Orin Brown and Nancy Kennedy were both served tonight with the arrest warrants at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing and may lead to additional criminal charges. The bodies of two victims have been uncovered linking them to a residence in Burton, South Carolina.
There is a multi-agency investigation into the death of a man, who’s remains were found burned and unidentifiable inside a vehicle in Yemassee on December 18, according to a news release sent by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
During the investigation of the death, it was revealed that he was murdered, then taken to Yemassee and burned inside of a vehicle.
Beaufort County Sheriff ‘s Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigators served a search warrant on the residence believed to be the location of the male victim located in Burton this morning where a body, believed to be an adult female, was buried in a shallow grave on the property in Burton.
The woman’s body will have an autopsy done to determine her identity and the cause of death.
Investigators believe, due to evidence observed during the search, that a violent crime had taken place inside the residence.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are still on the scene collecting evidence for forensic examination.
