Rare Out of Season Tropical Depression forms in Central Pacific Ocean

Tropical Depression 1-C is the earliest central Pacific formation on Record. (WSAV)

El Nino and its associated above normal water temperatures in the tropical Pacific continues to churn out unusual weather… the latest this morning as a new tropical depression forms in the central north Pacific Ocean.

The hurricane season in the Central Pacific basin runs from June 1 to November 30… so this is a rather rare out of season event.

Also… tropical depression 1-C (designated name by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center) is the earliest central Pacific formation on record by 6 days over Winona which formed in 1989.

The storm is forecast to strengthen into a tropical storm but is likely to just meander in the open north central tropical Pacific and not threaten any land areas.

The Official Forecast Track and Public Advisory are below.
