UPDATE: According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper, Lyle Thurmond the accident occurred on East Oglethorpe Highway in the vicinity of the Pizza Hut restaurant in Hinesville.
Thurmond said the woman was standing in the center turn lane when the officer was attempting to make a left turn into one of the local hotels on his route.
He said the officer did not immediately see the woman, and was unable to avoid her.
The woman was initially transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville and later transported to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
Her condition is still unknown.
Thurmond said the rainy weather and glare from oncoming vehicles appears to have been factors in the accident.
The officer was not injured.
While crossing East Oglethorpe Highway, a woman was struck by a patrol car.
According to Hinesville Traffic Accident Investigator Jeremy Graig, the woman was attempting to cross the highway shortly after 9 pm when she was struck by a patrol car making a left turn from the center turning lane.
The woman was transported to Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.
GSP has been called in to investigate.
