Beaufort investigators looking for leads in 2006 cold case

Investigators with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office are looking for new leads in a 2006 murder case run cold. Investigators say 68-year-old Joseph Holmes was shot and killed on December 20, 2006, by two unidentified gun at the Sheldon Convenience Store in Northern Beaufort County.

An eyewitness to the incident said the two suspects had their faces masked when they entered the store, telling those inside the situation was a “hold-up.” The witness said Holmes was sitting at a table in the back of the store, when shots were fired. Holmes was hit, as the suspects fled. Holmes was transported via ambulance to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to a single gunshot wound.
