Three Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officers are moving up. David Gay, Rob Gavin and Ashley Brown were all promoted to the rank of Captain Thursday. They have more than 50 years of service combined with SCMPD. Gay will now be in charge of the Department of Technology, Gavin of Standards and Recruiting and Brown will lead the Violent Crimes Task Force.
Captain Gavin says the job is not about the money. “People don’t join this profession for the money, you aren’t going to become a millionaire. It’s about being able to give back, the opportunity to serve. You just have to remember that times are going to be good, times are going to be bad. You just have to continue to work, remember what we do. The wins that you have, the losses you have you, try not to repeat them.”
Mark Dana, Chairman of the 200 Club, was also given an honorary badge for his work with the department’s reserve officers’ program.
