A milky drink really can help you nod off – but only if the cow was milked at NIGHT.
Yes… milked at night. Cattle produce more sleep-inducing compounds after dark.
I’m sure you’ve heard this before… If you can’t sleep, drink a warm glass of milk. Well, a new study has found it really does have sleep-enhancing properties – if it was milked from a cow at night. Researchers found that ‘night milk’ has more tryptophan and melatonin, compounds proven to aid sleep and reduce anxiety. The body converts trytophan into serotonin – a natural hormone in the body that can make you sleepy.
This discovery has also led scientists to believe it’s all more than just psychological associations, such as mother’s giving children milk at bed time.
In the study, scientists found that night milk causes one to fall asleep faster and to sleep for a longer period of time.
