(Savannah, GA)- Thursday, December 17 is the last day to take advantage of the City of Savannah’s Food for Fines program.
Food for Fines allows anyone with a City of Savannah parking citation for an expired meter or overtime in a time zone to get that ticket waived by donating canned food to those in need.
The program is part of the City’s annual Great Savannah Canned Food Drive to help stock the shelves at America’s Second Harvest.
Bring in a minimum of 10 canned food items to Parking Services headquarters, 100 E. Bryan St., and one parking citation will be excused as well as any accumulated late fees. Expired items will not be accepted.
To date, the program has collected more than 7,000 cans with 534 parking citations excused.
Acceptable canned foods include:
· Peanut butter
· Canned meat and protein such as canned ravioli, chicken, ham, tuna, meat spreads, etc.
· Beef stew and soup
· Canned vegetables such as beans, peas, carrots and corn
