UPDATE: Officer Hospitalized After Crash

UPDATE – 7 a.m.

A Metro Police Officer is recovering in the hospital after he crashed during a pursuit on Skidaway Road early Saturday morning.

According to a Metro Police spokesman, at about 3:30 a.m., officers were responding to a shots fired call at Howard Foss Drive and Jasmine Avenue.

Two cars, a white Toyota and an Inifiniti, were shooting back and forth at one another.

About 30 minutes later, the white Toyota crashed into a marked police transport van and officers began to pursue the driver down Skidaway.

During the pursuit an officer in one of the cruisers crashed but it is still unclear if he lost control or what else may have caused the accident.

That officer was transported to Candler Hospital with injuries considered to be non-life threatening.

The driver of the white Toyota is still on the loose and police are still investigating the incident.
