Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT) conducted an undercover operation that led to a local nurse in custody on felony charges.
According to a news release by Gene Harley, CNT arrested 54-year-old James Elliot Cooke of Savannah a registered nurse, employed with the St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital, after a two weeks of undercover agents buying pills from Cooke.
Cooke was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a slew of felony charges, including selling prescription drugs.
A spokesman for the hospital, Scott Larson, says Cooke no longer works at St. Joseph’s/Candler.
CNT also issued a search warrant of Cooke’s home on White Bluff Road.
The search recovered large amounts of prescription pills and a little more than $3,000 in cash.
The investigation into Cooke began earlier in the month after a tip that he was selling prescription drugs. The hospital worked with CNT throughout the investigation.
Cooke now sits in jail awaiting to be arraigned with more charges expected to be added as the investigation is still ongoing.
