Search crews have ended the search of a cargo ship’s wreckage in the deep Atlantic without finding the vessel’s black box.

The National Transportation Safety reported yesterday that the El Faro’s voyage data recorder was not found… but said in a statement that the agency is still hopeful investigators can determine a probable cause for the sinking.

The freighter sank October 1 after it lost engine power and got stuck in category 4 hurricane Joaquin on its way from Jacksonville to Puerto Rico.

The ship and its bridge were found separated… and in 15,000 feet of water.

Unfortunately… a Navy submarine searching the area was unable find the ship’s mast… where the recorder was mounted.
