TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. – Tybee Island, Georgia and the American Legion Tybee Post #154 will host its 2nd Annual Tybee Salutes Heroes event the weekend following Veterans Day, November 13-15, 2015.
Active and former military personnel are invited to bring their families to Tybee for a weekend of quality time together at the beach. Weekend highlights include family-friendly events at the American Legion and the Tybee Salutes Heroes Parade.
The Tybee Salutes Heroes Parade will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 14 at the intersection of Butler Avenue and 14th Street and will travel north to Memorial Park (5th Street and Butler Avenue). Event organizers encourage visitors and the community to come out for the parade and show their support for our military.
Following the parade, a ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park. From 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. that evening, a Military Family Celebration will be held at the American Legion Tybee Post #154, complete with children’s games, a pot-luck and a cash bar.
Various Tybee accommodations are offering special rates for the weekend. In addition to accommodations, several island restaurants, shops and attractions are also offering special discounts for military families. Simply ask for the “Military Discount” when shopping.
Organizers for the event hope to double the number of families from last year who were selected to stay on the island at no cost. For last year’s inaugural event, rental costs for 50 Tybee Island beach houses, cottages and condos were waived for those selected at participating lodging providers.
“We are so happy and excited for the active and former military personnel and their families to be here on Tybee,” said Tybee Salutes Heroes Co-Chair Sharon Shaver. “Our goal is to honor them and show Tybee’s continued support for our troops, past and present.”
