CHATHAM COUNTY, GA – The Department of Natural Resources is continuing its search Sunday for a boater along the Savannah River according to police.

Metro Police say the search began after 9 Saturday when the boater went missing following a collision with the Fort Pulaski Bridge.

A good Samaritan contacted the Tybee Island Coast Guard to let them know about a boater that was ejected from a 17-foot boat.

The missing boater is described as a white male in his early 20s to late 30s. He is believed to have been the sole occupant of the vessel.

DNR located the boat. The boat’s operator remains at large.

DNR, SCMPD and Coast Guard vessels responded. The Coast Guard also provided aerial support. SCMPD’s Islands Precinct patrol officers, Marine Patrol Unit and Underwater Search and Recovery Team (USRT) joined the search.

Metro’s Marine Patrol and USRT ran side scan sonar throughout the area of the missing boater’s last known location. There, two points of interest were marked and searched by divers.

Metro cleared the scene upon completion of the dives, but will return at the request of DNR. DNR continues to search the area.
