According to a news release sent out by Sally Silbermann, the Chatham County Health Department has issued advisories for Middle Beach at Center Terrace (from Lovell Street to 11th Street) and Strand Beach at the pier (11th Street to 18th Street) on Tybee Island.
The advisory is for just those areas and does not affect the other beaches on the island.
The beach advisory is to inform the public of the risk of possible illness associated with water contact, but does not mean the beach is closed.
Chatham County Health Department does not recommend swimming or wading in the water in the areas under advisory.
Seafood caught in this area should also be thoroughly washed with fresh water and cooked fully.
When test show the bacteria levels meet the bacteria levels of the Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended standards the advisory will be lifted.
The area is set to be retested.
