News 3 has learned much more about the suspect accused of shooting at two SCMPD officers before he was shot and killed early Wednesday morning.
25 year old Tyrie Cuyler is a convicted felon. He was arrested in Chatham County in 2008, and spent time in a Georgia state prison in 2009 for robbery and possession of cocaine.
We also discovered that when he got out of prison, he mostly stayed out of trouble, with just a few traffic offenses, and one loitering charge.
But that was until March 18, 2015, the day Cuyler was arrested in McIntosh County.
Looking at the police report from that day, the officer wrote he pulled Cuyler’s car over for speeding. During the stop the officer said he looked “nervous”. So he asked to search the car, which Cuyler refused.
When he did search Cuyler, the officer said he had large amounts of cash in his pocket and claimed he was going to buy a car in Jacksonville.
During his search of the car, the officer found a gun in the glove compartment.
Further investigation showed that gun was stolen from Savannah.
Cuyler was charged with Speeding, Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
