PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) – Hurricane Patricia continues pushing his way inland over Western Mexico.

It’s a mountainous region of small hamlets vulnerable to floods and landslides along with spotty communication.

The storm has weakened from category 5 to a category 2 but is still strong with torrential rains that authorities warn could cause deadly floods and mudslides.

The storm came ashore in a sparsely populated area.
