Student in Beaufort attacks School Resource Officer

BEAUFORT, S.C. – The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says a male student was suspended from Battery Creek High School Tuesday morning for attacking a School Resource Officer.

It happened around 11:00am.  The Resource Officer was told a suspended student was in the school’s cafeteria.  The officer told the student to leave and student tackled the officer.  One other student got involved while the officer was wrestling with the suspended student.

Both students were pepper sprayed and the officer was able to detain the suspended student while second ran off.  The officer was treated for minor injuries.

The suspended student is being transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.  He will face hearings on charges of Trespassing, Assault and Batter, and Disturbing Schools.  The incident remains under investigation
