SOUTHSIDE SAVANNAH, GA – A celebration of life took place in Savannah’s Lake Mayer park Sunday afternoon.
Friends, loved ones and family released balloons trying to not think the worse for the missing Savannah man who was aboard the El Faro. The container ship was sunk as a result of navigating into hurricane Joaquin back in September.
Savannah man Anthony Shawn Thomas went missing along with 30 crew members as the container ship was sunk on its way to Puerto Rico. Family members still hope for the best but are worrying with questions left unanswered.
“Why did the ship still go out that questions has still yet to be answered that’s our main question that we have,” says Thomas’ brother Jerome Gayle.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the shipwreck areas along side Navy and Coast Guard crews.
