If you’re headed to the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival this weekend, dont worry the police department is doing everything they can to keep you safe.
“We’ll have a heavy presence out there throughout the event, you’ll see them instantly when you walk in,you’ll see them walking down the street, as you’re walking the event,” said Lt. Christian Gonzales.
Included in that heavy presence will be two separate command posts to be able to handle any security threats that may arise.
“We’ll have a command post, a forward command post on Calhoun Street, so if anybody sees anything, wants to report anything, we’ll have an officer there, and our incident command post further away from the location.”
But the biggest issue you may notice is road closures. Starting Friday at noon, Calhoun Street will be shut down between May River Road and Bridge Street. Then Saturday, the real closures begin.
“Saturday morning, 8 o’clock, we’re going to be shutting down May River road, from DuBois all the way to Boundary Street.so traffic will be deterred so it can go down Goethe road, or keep going down Boundary street.”
Gonzales says they will be monitoring the event from both the ground and the sky with the towns new security cameras, and urges everyone to be aware of their surroundings and patient with traffic patterns.
“Its going to be busy, its going to be crowded, so they’re going to have to be patient because traffic may get a little congested down here, but its going to be better than it has in the past.”
Friday–Noon until 6 P.M. Calhoun Street from May River Road to Bridge Street.
Saturday and Sunday–8.A.M. May River Road from DuBois to Boundary Street.
