Police investigating three weekend accidents in Savannah

The Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating three accidents from the weekend.

The latest accident happened around 7:15pm Sunday on 516 near Veteran’s Parkway.  Police say 23-year-old Christopher Lewis was driving west on I-516 at a high rate of speed and lost control of his Infinity G35.  He struck the concrete median of the Hunter Army Airfield Overpass and rolled over.  He was ejected and later died at Memorial university Medical Center.

On Saturday around 5pm investigators say 44-year old Charlene Cooper was driving west on Montgomery Cross Road when 49-year-old Minerva Evans turned into Cooper’s path from Marcus Place and the two cars collided.  Evans was ejected when her car spun.  Both women were transported to Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

About 30 minutes later, 23-year-old John Hensley collided his Harley Davidson motorcycle into a Chatham Area Transit bus.  The bus was in the far right lane in the 11000 block of Abercorn to unload passengers.  Police believe a car was traveling in the same lane as the bus and switched to the center without signaling.  Hensley tried to avoid the car and was thrown off his motorcyle which struck the bus.  Hensley was transported to Memorial with non-life threatening injuries.

All accidents are still being investigated by MAIT
