CHARLESTON, S.C. (MEDIA GENERAL) – Saturday’s heavy rainfall in the Lowcountry already is a record breaker for Charleston.
The National Weather Service in Charleston announced at 7:27 a.m. ET the city already had broken its daily record for rainfall. According to the NWS, instruments at Charleston International Airport had measured 3.46 inches of rain, breaking the record of 3.28 inches set in 1994.
Heavy rains are expected to continue throughout the day, with many sections of the historic city already dealing with flooding.
