(SAVANNAH) An unsettling, early morning discovery on a busy traffic artery in Savannah leads to a death investigation by police. Savannah Chatham Metro Police Department Spokesman Eunicia Baker says detectives were called to the Truman Parkway just as the morning commute picked up steam. Baker says a deceased person was found over an embankment in the northbound lanes just south of the Victory Drive exit. She says the call came into the Savannah-Chatham 911 center about 5:06am.
The ensuing investigation closed one of the northbound lanes throughout much of the morning rush hour. Baker says it is very early in the investigation and a lot of details are not available at this time, including gender or a preliminary cause of death. More than a half dozen officers and detectives were on the scene collecting evidence. Southbound traffic was unaffected, but there was a slowdown due to the rubberneckers slowing to see what happened. Traffic returned to it’s normal flow just before 9:00a.m. Baker says SCMPD will release more information as it becomes available.
