Attacked Sunday, by a four foot shark- Joshua Bitner decided to literally take matters,or in this case a shark, into his own hands.
“I grabbed its top fin lifted it out of the water and punched it,” said Joshua while in the hospital recovering from the attack.
According to Fernandina beach Fire rescue chief Ty Silcox, the shark was likely feeding on a school of small fish swimming close to where Joshua was wading in the water.
“If bait fish are jumping out of the water that means most likely there’s a shark nearby. But I didn’t see any bait fish.” Bitner said.
What he did see were people on shore too far he says, to hear his screams for help.
Eventually, Bitner Pulled himself far enough out of the water to alert nearby beach goers and receive medical attention.
