As he begins his historic trip, Pope Francis late this afternoon arrived in Cuba. You can hear the sound of applause as his plane touched down.
As he left the papal plane, the wind did not cooperate and took away his head covering, but Pope Francis took it in stride.
He was met by religious and state leaders including Cuban President Raul Castro.
NBC reports that on this trip, the pope will be offering a show of solidarity with cubans and delivering a message in the United States that Hispanics are the bedrock of the American church.
Pope Francis is scheduled to leave Cuba on Tuesday and will visit three U.S. Cities including Washington, D.C. New York and Philadelphia.
Massive preparations are underway, especially for security.
