(AP) – The father of the man arrested in the Phoenix freeway shootings says police are miking his son the scapegoat.

Leslie Merritt Sr. calls anyone who thinks his son did the shooting  a “moron” and he said police are desperate due to immense public pressure.

Authorities, meanwhile, say the investigation continues and that drivers should remain alert for now.

Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves announced signs urging caution will stay up for now following the announcement that an arrest had been made in connection with four shootings along Phoenix-area freeways that have kept drivers on edge for weeks.

Authorities say it’s possible there may be copycats.

Officials also say they have a forensics match to a weapon.

Since Aug. 29, there have been 11 confirmed shootings of vehicles in the Phoenix area involving bullets or other projectiles.
