Lockdown Lifted, One Dead in SSU Shooting

Police are investigating a deadly shooting on the campus of Savannah State University.

A school official told News 3 the shooting happened Thursday night near the Student Union. One man, identified by school officials as Christopher Starks, was transported to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, officials said.  He later died. The junior was from the metro Atlanta area.

The campus was on lockdown for several hours, but that has since been lifted. School officials recommend students in on-campus residences stay in place.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation. So far, no arrests have been reported.

According to the Savannah State University Student Government Instagram page, a memorial will be held this afternoon at noon at Feliz-Alexis Circle Unity Plot.
