All eyes on Tropical Storm Erika

(NBC News)  All eyes are on Tropical Storm Erika as she churns her way through the Caribbean.

Erika has weakened somewhat, but still has her sights set on Florida, where the governor has already declared a state of emergency.

The storm devastated the Caribbean island of Dominica Thursday, killing 12 people, including an elderly man and two children who were killed when a mudslide crashed into their home.

Another 20 people have been reported missing.

That’s not what they’re expecting in Florida when Erika comes ashore, possibly by Monday.

The forecast of up to a foot of rain and the flooding that would bring is more disconcerting than even hurricane-strength winds.

Miami could be experiencing gale force winds as early as Sunday night.
