Sage Brown, Savannah Attorney and Civil Rights Activist, Passes Away

Savannah is mourning the loss of a local attorney and civil rights champion. Sage Brown passed away Saturday morning after a battle with leukemia.

Brown helped change the face of public education in Chatham County as one of 19 African American students to integrate the School System in 1963.

He was also a decorated war hero. He earned two Purple Hearts during three combat tours in Vietnam.

For several years, Brown served as a commentator for WSAV’s MLK parade coverage sharing his personal perspective on Savannah’s fight for equality.

He is survived by his wife and six children.
