Lightning is being blamed for a house fire early Saturday evening in Savannah’s Southside.
According to Southside Fire Chief of Operations Wayne Noha, the family was inside a home on Grove Point road when they heard a popping sound. But they didn’t hear any more, and didn’t think anything about it.
That’s when Southside dispatch began getting calls about a fire in the roof of the home.
A Savannah-Chatham Metro Police officer stopped by and saw smoke coming from the roof. He quickly moved to get the family out of the home and to safety.
Noha says the attic was badly damaged by the blaze.
